The existing Gaetz Avenue / Waskasoo Creek bridge is a cast in place concrete arch culvert originally constructed in 1912 and widened in 1957. The bridge is in poor structural condition and requires full replacement. The proposed replacement structure is a 16-meter-long single span SLC-700 girder bridge. In addition to the larger structure, to pass a 1:100-year flood event, the new bridge will also be raised approximately a half meter. This vertical adjustment will require an approximately 100-meter stretch of adjacent roadway to be raised. In conjunction with the bridge replacement work, road reconstruction and replacement of aging utilities along Gaetz Avenue between 45 Street and 43 Street is included in the scope of work.
